Creating perfect squeeze tube labels

intro-img

When it comes to creating flawless squeeze tube labels it’s important to know that there are some unique requirements that set these apart from labels on semi-squeeze and rigid containers. By focusing on these key aspects, you can ensure that your labels perform exactly as expected, enhancing your product’s appeal and functionality.

Film Selection

The flexibility of full-squeeze tube labels is crucial. Polyethylenes are typically the films of choice due to their conformability, though some polypropylenes can also be effective. Vinyls can be used for unique visual characteristics, but they are often more costly.

Label Design and Placement

Proper label design is essential. Ensure that your label artwork wraps at least a quarter of an inch around the crimp edge of the tube and that the label width allows for a similar overlap. This design reduces stress on the crimp edge, helping to prevent snapback and lifting.

When applying the label, make sure the back side overlaps the crimp edge. This helps secure the label. Additionally, ensure that labels are centered and tubes are properly placed into the crimper to avoid positioning issues that can cause label edges to be too close to the crimp, which could increase stress and risk of failure.

Crimp Method

The method you choose for crimping also plays a significant role in label performance.

Hot Crimping: This method uses very hot tube-sealing jaws (350-450°F) to melt the tube’s sides together. Labels should be designed to stop just short of the crimp area to prevent lifting, as film substrates cannot withstand the high temperature.

Hot-Air Tube Sealing (Cold Crimping): The most popular method, hot-air tube sealing, uses hot air to soften the plastic tube wall and make it pliable. Cold crimping jaws then seal the tube. This method allows labels to extend through the crimp area without the risk of failure.

Be the Hero

By investing time and care into the creation of packaging labels that attract shoppers and boost sales. You can become a trusted partner to your clients by offering guidance in the design of artwork and the selection of substrates. By adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure that your beautifully designed full-squeeze labels perform flawlessly, making you the hero and leading to repeat business.
